Cusco, Sacred Valley, and Machu Pucchu

The perfect extension to your Galapagos adventure in the heart of the Inca empire. This journey begins in the city of Cusco, followed by three nights of exploration in the Sacred Valley including the archeological sites of Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Maras, Moray, Chinchero, and the world-renowned Machu Picchu Inca citadel. Return to Cusco for a night of exploration before your return back home.

Day One.

Arrival in Cusco

Upon arrival at Alejandro Velasco Astete Airport in Cusco, you will be met at the airport and transferred

to your hotel. Enjoy a good night’s rest and some time to settle in and adapt to the high altitude of the city. Cusco is at 11,319ft (3,400mt), so it is important to adapt to the high altitude. Included: Private transportation (with Spanish speaking driver), national certified tour guide (English-Spanish speaking), and hotel accommodation.

Day Two.

Cusco City Tour (Historic District, Qorikancha, & Inca Ruins)

After late breakfast, explore the historic center of Cusco, a UNESCO World Heritage city where Inca and colonial heritage blend throughout its architecture. Visit Qorikancha, the most important temple of the Inca Empire, once covered in gold and later transformed by the Spanish into the Santo Domingo Convent. We continue to Sacsayhuaman, an impressive ceremonial fortress known for its massive stonework and sweeping views over the city. Next, discover Qenqo, a ritual site carved into rock featuring underground chambers and ceremonial channels, Puka Pukara archaeological site, and the Inca bath of Tambomachay and Tambomachay, the “Baths of the Inca,” a water temple with flowing fountains used for purification rituals. Enjoy a well-deserved rest upon arrival at your hotel.

Day Three.

Cusco - Sacred Valley (Pisac & Ollantaytambo)

In the morning, we will pick you up from the hotel in Cusco to begin our ride down to the valley of Urubamba, known as the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Here we start our first visit to the beautiful Pisac Inca Ruins were, during our walk, we can admire the fine architectural work of the Inca culture. Then, we continue our tour to visit the colorful market of Pisac. Our transport will then take us towards the Inca town of Ollantaytambo where we visit the impressive Inca fortress and walk on this ancient typical Inca town. A traditional lunch is included at a local restaurant featuring Andean cuisine. In the afternoon, continue to your hotel retreat located in heart of the Sacred Valley.

Day Four.

Sacred Valley (Maras, Moray & Chinchero)

After a hearty Andean breakfast, you will embark on a captivating journey through the heart of the Sacred Valley. Our first stop will be the mysterious circular terraces of Moray, an Inca laboratory that consists of a peculiar site where ancient civilizations carried out agricultural experiments testing different soils and weathers to produce the best crops. We then continue our drive to visit the salt mines of Maras where thousands of salt pools are formed from an underground spring and subsequently evaporated to produce pure white and pink salt. Finally, we drive to the vibrant textile village of Chinchero where you will enjoy a unique experience of learning about the traditional weaving methods before heading back to your hotel for a good night’s rest.

Day Five.

Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes

After an early breakfast, travel by scenic train through the Sacred Valley to Aguas Calientes before taking a shuttle bus to the iconic Machu Picchu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Enjoy a guided tour of its most important landmarks, including the Main Plaza, Temple of the Sun, Sacred Plaza, Temple of the Three Windows, Intihuatana Stone, agricultural terraces, and breathtaking mountain viewpoints. Discover the history, architecture, and mysteries of this remarkable Inca citadel before returning to Aguas Calientes to relax amid the peaceful cloud forest surroundings.

OPTIONAL ADD-ON (HUAYNA PICCHU): For those more adventurous guests, enjoy a guided exploration of the Machu Picchu Inca Citadel including the agricultural sector and Inca terraces, the House of the Inca, Temple of the Sun, Temple of the Three Windows, Sacred Rock, Temple of the Condor, Storehouses and Water Mirrors. Then you will enjoy the iconic climb up Huayna Picchu, a 1–1.5-hour ascent (1.5 miles / 2.4 kilometers long) that rewards you with the most dramatic panoramic view of Machu Picchu and the surrounding Andes.

Enjoy a leisurely morning in Aguas Calientes, surrounded by lush gardens and beautiful natural scenery.

Depending on train schedules and personal interests, you may have time to explore the nearby town, browse local handicraft markets, or enjoy the hotel's nature trails and birdwatching opportunities. In the afternoon, board the train through the scenic Sacred Valley and continue by private transfer back to Cusco for a good night’s rest.
